Asset Tracing and Recovery

Case Studies

Case Study 1

QRI was hired to investigate a Hollywood film production company that had failed to make loan repayments to its lenders. The company had filed for bankruptcy and our client, an investor, was considering suing for breach of contract and fraud. By examining the holdings of the film company’s executives, we found luxury condominiums in Miami Beach that were owned not in their names but by a trust with a generic name. By searching loan documents, we were able to identify shares in a private aircraft the film company had bought with loans from one of its partners. And buried in court filings from an unrelated case, we found a deposition transcript in which one of the subjects disclosed the name of his bank.

Case Study 2

Counsel for a high-end jeweler hired QRI to find the assets of a competitor to enforce a $200 million judgment. Evidence we found in corporate filings and real estate records showed that the principals of the jewelry company had used a distant relative to establish dozens of LLCs that held real estate interests. We also uncovered a list of the jewelry company's inventory, which was inadvertently published on its website, but which was not indexed by popular search engines. QRI's investigation allowed our law firm client to successfully dispute the opposing party's claims that its principals did not have the funds to satisfy the judgment and proceed to enforce the judgment.
